The Graduate Support Center for orphanage graduates in Kiev is invaluable in the support and help it provides to orphans who graduate from the orphanages. An economic crisis started about a year ago in Ukraine, with many graduates losing jobs and orphanages getting less funding. Things are getting even worse now, so An Orphan Smiles work in this area of providing food has never been more important.
The Graduate Support Center at Orphanage #12 on any given day feeds about 10 - 15 hungry teenagers. These orphanage graduates have very little money of their own to spend on food and very often need help. Each day the refrigerator and pantry at the Support Center have been stocked with some basic food (milk, eggs, hot dogs or chicken wings, bread, cookies, tea and sugar), so that any of the graduates could come and eat something. Many graduates are ashamed to admit they have nothing to eat, so just leaving food in the kitchen is a dignified way to offer them help without embarrasing them. It is not a lot of for this many children, but it REALLY helps. Please consider donating ANY AMOUNT to help offset these expenses. An Orphan Smiles would love to provide enough help that none of these children will be hungry and that the Support Center can hopefully supplement the offerings with some fresh fruit and vegetables.
